Economic Transition in the Central and Eastern European Countries (ECON-01)

This course is concerned with the theoretical, empirical and institutional comparison of different economic systems and with the processes by which economic systems change over time. Particular emphasis is placed on the economic transition of the Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs) and Ukraine. Topics include: economic planning; comparative economic performance; sectoral reallocation; price liberalisation; soft budget constraints; government failure; privatization; the political economy of transition; macroeconomic stabilization; foreign trade and investment.
