Transcarpathian Tour-2014: castles, mountains, cheese & wine

In April 2014 students and administrative stuff of the Semester Abroad  Program visited one of the most beautiful regions of Ukraine  – Transcarpathian region. the main purpose of our tour was to discover the cultural landscapes of Western Ukraine as well as to practice Ukrainian language. Near Schönborn Palace

The resort Carpathians. Among the attractive Carpathian Mountains you’ll find one of the most beautiful and romantic palaces in Ukraine – Hunting Palace of the Counts Schönborn (1890). The palace with 365 windows and 52 rooms is surrounded by a beautiful park with many exotic plants.

          the "Palanok" castleMukachevo. Here at lonely volcanic mountain is situated one the most powerful fortress in Ukraine – the castle “Palanok” (XIV cent.), raised by Prince Fedor Koryatovych and covered with heroic glory by Princess Ilona Zrini. If you have free time in Mukachevo, you can also explore the many interesting Chapel of St. Martin (XIV cent.), The palace Rakoczy (1663) and a beautiful green city hall (1903).

walking tourBeregove. Hungarian capital of Ukraine – “Beregsasom” with famous thermal pools with unique water that rises from a depth of 1600 m and cures 86 diseases. You can find analogical place only in New Zealand. The town also has a few gems of architecture: Gothic church of All Saints (1370), Church of Reformers (XV cent.), “Counts’ Yard” – Prince Betleni Estate (1629), the imperial court building (1908) and casino “Golden peahen”.

Lower Village creameryLower Village. A unique village in Ukraine, which is an example of a local entity. All residents are united into the “Association of Local Development”, which resulted in the infrastructure development and organic creamery, which invites you to taste different varieties of cheese with wine. Cheese is made by Swiss technology and considered to be best in Ukraine. You can buy here cheese by producer prices.

Synevyr lakeSynevyr. This lake is the hallmark of Ukrainian Carpathians, known more popularly as the “Sea Eye”, it attracts spectacular mountain scenery and crystal clear water, which has long been led by the noble trout. The lake was formed abo

Shypit fallPylypec. Here from a height of 15 meters in many fascinating stages between rocks throws water in a picturesque mountain valley is one of the most beautiful waterfalls of Ukraine – Whisper Fall (Shypit Fall). It originates from a large underground source, the so-called “Sea Eye”, one of the most beautiful places of the Ukrainian Carpathians – Borzhava. Staying here perfectly helps to break from civilization and provides new vitality.ut 10,000 years ago at the height of 989 meters and has a maximum depth of 22 meters.
