Excursion to the Carpathians
In April 2011 the students and the organizers of Semester Abroad program went to the Carpathian Mountains. The itinerary of the trip comprised of the towns Kolomyia and Kosiv and some surrounding villages typical of the Carpathian region. The town of Kolomyia is famous for its Museum of Folk Art with a huge Pysanka monument representing the Ukrainian folk craft of egg painting. Various types of egg paintings represented different regions in Ukraine. The town of Kosiv is known for its market of regional handcrafts where the best embroidery, woodcarving and woven products can be found at reasonable prices. The participants of the trip attempted a two-hour-long walk up the mountain, though the weather was not very favorable. Discovering the beauty of the Carpathian region was truly enjoyable and inspiring.
